With larger emphasis on issues with the environment, coupled with the ever growing popularity of mobile phones, there appears to be a slight conflict of issue. Even devoted green consumers own or use a mobile phone, but all the while appreciate the detrimental effects disposing of them improperly can cause.
With the large amount of metals and plastics that go into creating the modern mobile phone, disposing them at the end of their life into landfill can be extremely hazardous. Technophiles and technophobes alike are continually embracing the newest designs, often replacing them at the end of contracts or when theirs becomes outdated. But what becomes of these old warn out mobile phones?
Even old mobile phones that we become tired of or those that have been replaced with a newer edition can still have a use. You would be surprised at just how much can be done with an old phone. They can be repackaged and sold or stripped down for their components and accessories, very few handsets are ever beyond use. Even if yours has become damaged or destroyed saving in a horrible accident, there are still recycling options that are available to you. You shouldn't expect any financial settlement, but at least you can be safe in the knowledge that your handset will be properly disposed of in the correct manner, rather than rotting for years in a landfill.
One of the most damaging elements of a the new design handsets are often the chemicals used within the batteries and their other component parts. If these are disposed of incorrectly then they can potentially pose a significant threat to their surrounding environment; particularly if found with several other similar phones.
Mobile phones should be treated like any other kind of waste when it comes to disposal. So many of us will go to great lengths to separate our recyclable material from day to day waste; and the same care should also be applied to your old phone. Disposing of it should be done in the most moral and suitable way. Fortunately many places, including many council refuge tips, will offer an uncomplicated way of ridding yourself of a mobile long past its best days.
Many say that it is like saying goodbye to an old friend when the day comes to get discard the old phone that you've been carrying around for months and months. Of course, some will be more special than others but others you'd rather just see the back of as soon as possible. But whatever way you do decide to part company with your mobile, you must ensure that it is the right way.
